Tuned free space elastomer absorber

Specific elastomers can be chosen for specific environments or applications. Elastomers process by Laird for outdoor use include nitrile, neoprene, natural rubber, urethanes, silicones, fluorosilicones, and fluoroelastomers (Viton®). Fluorosilicones and fluoroelastomers provide good fuel resistance, chemical resistance and high temperature capabilities. Urethanes and nitriles offer fuel resistance with good toughness and abrasion resistance.

Neoprene is good for naval environments. Once the elastomer is chosen, the electrical properties can be customized for the specific application. Absorbers can be designed for single or multiple frequencies and for specular of surface wave attenuation. A variety of magnetic fillers are available. Specific fillers are used for corrosive salt fog environments. Magnetic elastomeric absorbers can be supplied in sheet form or molded to specific shapes. They can be molded to cover tight radius corners or have tapers molded in the part to act as a termination. The parts can be bonded with a variety of adhesives and can survive in a high speed aerospace environment.
